SLSA Child Protection Policy

Toowoon Bay SLSC is committed to providing a safe, supportive, enjoyable environment for children through the SLSA Safeguarding Children and Young People Program.  The program recognises the importance of protecting young people under the age of 18 from abuse, harm and exploitation.

Resources, webinars and online training courses are available to every club member to establish clear guidelines for appropriate behaviour when engaging with children and young people. To learn more about how you can protect our children and young members, please contact the Member Protection Officers at Toowoon Bay SLSC or read the SLSA Safeguarding Children and Young People Guideline or Safeguarding Children and Young People Handbook

All Toowoon Bay SLSC members who work with children and young people are required to complete the Surf Life Saving’s Safeguarding Children and Young People Awareness Course. To ensure you are recognised for completing the course, please login to the Members Portal first. Access to the course can be found in Memberships > Courses > Login to ELearning > Training Library >  SLS > Safety and Wellbeing (View Courses) > Safeguarding Children and Young People Awareness.

Play by the Rules also offer a free Child Protection online course that provides a certificate of completion.

See Something – Say Something

Our club is committed to the safeguarding of children and young people and want to remind all members where and how to report safeguarding concerns.  The more people who are aware of the signs of abuse and what to do if they notice them, the more able our organisation is to provide an environment which protects children and young people.  The message is simple – if you see something, say something.

Reporting is easy.  You can follow these steps

  1. If the child or young person is in immediate threat of harm or danger call 000.
  2. If your report relates to the allegation and/or suspicion of abuse or harm, call the Police Assistance Line on 13 14 44. They will assist and advise whether they will investigate or not.
  3. Regardless of whether the Police will investigate or not, report your concerns to Surf Life Saving either: Online (visit sls.com.au/safeguarding and click Make a Child Protection Report) or Face-to-face via the Member Protection Information Officer – Karen Hickmott or Nicole Locker – mpio.toowoonbayslsc@gmail.com
