Toowoon Bay SLSC began its history as an extension on the men’s dressing shed in 1954. Wyong Shire Council provided the necessary construction materials and with the man power of the original members, we soon had “a brick building 26′ long, 14’wide and 8’high with a flat concrete roof used for observation estimated to cost 490 pounds. A donation of 50 pounds enabled the purchase of a surf reel complete with a line and belt.”
Mr Bob Roberts, who spent many hours hiring rubber float aids from his beach hut, became the driving force to establish our first patrol members. Peter Purves, Len Mack, and Brian Rowan transferred from their clubs to join Bruce Rowan, Keith Salmon, Peter Cox, Dennis Tidy, Harold Bailey, Max Shean and Max Hazlett as our very first patrol.
The group spent the weekend of the October long weekend patrolling Toowoon Bay without mishap. Much was made of this occasion and photo opportunities abounded with the local Councilors. A carnival with other local surf clubs began our proud history wearing the royal blue and gold colours.
TOOWOON BAY CLUB SONG
Saturday morning and I’m off to the sea
Sun Cream red and yellow
people dependin’ on me
Watch me dive like a dolphin
See the salt water drippin’ off me
I’m the keeper of the ocean
I’m a Toowoon Bay Clubbie
Every summer crowds come along
Like an army we gather to protect the throng
Watch me dive like a dolphin
See the salt water drippin’ off me
I’m the keeper of the ocean
I’m a Toowoon Bay Clubbie
Sometimes out there I get lonely
There’s thousands like me
doin’ our bit for each other
I’m proud to be a Toowoon Bay Clubbie
Watch me dive like a dolphin
See the salt water drippin’ off me
I’m the keeper of the ocean
I’m a Toowoon Bay Clubbie
Watch me dive like a dolphin
See the salt water drippin’ off me
I’m the keeper of the ocean
I’m a Toowoon Bay Clubbie
